I
was regularly attending drop in figure drawing at the Winnipeg Art
Gallery Studio. We lived directly across the street at the time
and going to this seemed like an easy way to keep up my eye hand
connection. It is an automatic thing to draw from a model. I sit
and just start in. I like clear line definition when I am drawing,
not smudginess which is the opposite for me when I am painting.
So I have sketchbooks full of these model drawings that have a emptiness
about them. I also became mesmerized by a computer program with
which you can produce automatic images. I proceed to make hundreds
of drawings with it each one of stellar beauty.
I
began to think about the vacantness of both types of drawing, the
computer drawing and the human hand drawing. I combined the images
and got this lovely double vacant space.
