I am the mother of three young children. I am besotted with them and have an intense desire to capture and hold on tight to pieces of time. I am choosing images of my children that show their intense love of life or where I as the parent am overwhelmed with love for them.

The idea of the artist's ability to preserve a moment of another's spirit, sparks me. I like the idea of the artist using mark making to measure and record the physicality of humans with the physicality of paint. Specific individuality, a marker that this person was here, is important. I am building a humanness where individual identity, human made marks are important. In a small way, I am attempting to construct a bubble of domestic love in a stand against disappearing in the mass of printed dot patterns and the billions of people on the planet. My children's thoughts are in the present moment but I am conscious of how time seems to rapidly disappear. So, I am endeavoring to combine these outlooks by trapping bits of precious time while also acknowledging a nothing beyond this moment of time - mind set.
Another part of this project is integrating my video production with my painting. I have been collecting video moments. I am trying to blur out the surrounding world and sharpen the important part as it does when you focus on one you love. I have been working on clips of my children at their concerts. I am building video paintings.
This series was funded by the Manitoba Arts Council.
