A wild raspberry patch by the road above the residency cabin. I have to guard the berries because when my children visit me they want to pick the ones I am painting!!!

I think of uprights, crisscrosses and berries. I find patterns and break patterns.

Sometimes what you don’t see, what is happening elsewhere, effects you as you paint. While I paint in this short dry raspberry patch beside the road up from the cabin, a triathlon streams by me, participants sweating drinking water with numbers affixed to their chests. My children sign-up and join in, doing a duathlon because we didn’t bring bikes. I think about them and hope they are doing well in the heat as I sit and paint.
